Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie says she has filed a hate-crime complaint with Peel police after a local website published an article claiming the mayor is trying to convert the city to Islam so “they can kill her son just for being gay.”

A Quebec Superior Court justice has strongly criticized a lower court judge's insistence that a Montreal woman, Rania El-Alloul, remove her hijab in order to have her case heard in court.
"The court sympathizes with Ms. El-Alloul and deeply regrets how she was treated," wrote Justice Wilbrod Décarie in a decision released this week.

Hamilton mayor backs Muslim community push for inclusive city charter

Hamilton's mayor will take the advice of local Muslim leaders Wednesday and push for the city to sign a "charter for inclusive communities."
Fred Eisenberger will bring forward a motion at a city council meeting for the city to sign the charter.
The charter, which originated with the National Council of Canadian Muslims, affirms that Islamophobia "has no place in Canadian society."

Female members of the RCMP are now allowed to wear a hijab head scarf as part of their uniform, as the Mounties look to encourage more Muslim women to join their ranks.
