Mandela, a contemporary human rights icon, is one of the few foreign dignitaries to be granted honourary Canadian citizenship.

(Ottawa - November 27, 2013) The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), a prominent Muslim civil liberties & advocacy organization, today welcomed news that 3 suspects have been arrested in Hamilton in relation to an attack on the Hamilton Mountain Mosque and the Hindu Samaj temple which occurred three days after September 11, 2001.
The Hindu temple was destroyed in the arson and police have said that the charges would be prosecuted as a hate crime.

The Edmonton Police Service is to reveal a prototype official hijab for its officers this week, following testing to ensure its safety.
It is understood the Muslim headscarf would be black, and designed to be worn underneath the standard police cap.
Unlike a traditional hijab, it is to be affixed with tear-away snaps, and designed so as not to obstruct an officer’s vision, or even breathing, during a struggle or other dynamic situation.
