Dear Director Rashmi Swarup, Superintendent Ford and PDSB Trustees, It is hard to over-emphasize the importance and momentousness of the PDSB’s recent adoption of an anti-Islamophobia strategy. I am so excited that you have taken the leadership role to set an example for other school boards across the country to follow. So many of our children have been suffering in our classrooms and education system with almost no one to turn to. Many wait until they get home to speak to their loved ones about the hateful things they encountered at school. This pattern of Islamophobic exclusion must stop. I am so glad that you decided to take an active role. Thank you also for taking a collaborative approach to crafting this strategy, including consultations with community members who have long wanted to address these issues from their own experiences and lives. This is just the beginning. We look forward to the PDSB carrying out the mandate of this new anti-Islamophobia strategy and to witness what implementation really looks like on a day-to-day basis.
