NCCM is qualified to receive Zakah

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is eligible to receive Zakah from Canadian Muslims. Islamic scholars have confirmed that your Zakat is payable to organizations that exist to serve the Muslim community by protecting their rights. NCCM’s work is classified as ‘Fee-sabeelillah’, which is one of the eight categories of Zakat recipients detailed in the Qur’an (Chapter 9, Verse 60).

On June 9, 2014, the Canadian Council of Imams (CCI) declared that because the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) serves to defend the rights of Muslims and Islam, NCCM can receive Zakat as it meets the criteria of ‘Fee-sabeelillah’.

Moreover, individual Islamic scholars have also declared that NCCM is Zakat-eligible:

Shaikh Ahmed Kutty: « Canadian Muslims should have no hesitation in giving part of their Zakah to NCCM which is providing a most timely and essential service for the cause of Islam and Muslims; they have a reputation for professionalism, efficiency, commitment and integrity which in my mind are the most valuable assets of any Islamic organization worthy of the name. »

Imam Dr. Mohammed Iqbal Nadvi: « I hope Muslims all over the country help NCCM by their donating Zakah money for NCCM’s noble cause. »

Shaikh Mohammad Zahid Aboguddah: « NCCM is an Islamic organization that has an impressive track record of Islamic work in Canada. NCCM definitely qualifies to be a recipient of Zakah and I would strongly recommend to Canadan Muslims to consider NCCM when they distribute their Zakah. »
