National organizations launch new educator’s guide on geopolitical trauma and Islamophobia for school season
(Ottawa – August 24, 2016) The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), a prominent civil liberties & advocacy organization, will be joined by several partners on August 25th to launch a new educator’s guide on helping students dealing with geo-political trauma and Islamophobia.
The Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA), the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC), and the NCCM produced the guide to provide support to educators addressing issues arising out of the recent arrival of Syrian refugees to Canada, as well as the growing concern regarding Islamophobia and its impacts on children and youth.
The press conference will be in both English and French.

WHY: The arrival of Syrian refugees to Canada over the past year, as well as growing anti-Muslim rhetoric in Canada and in the United States, is having impacts on Canadian students and classrooms. This new guide is intended to support educators in addressing these complex issues and to further nurture safe and inclusive spaces at school for all students.
